Introduction to 3D Modeling in Maya, 2nd Edition

Introduction to 3D Modeling in Maya, 2nd Edition is perfect for a beginner or professional learning to model in Maya 2016. This training covers topics ranging from navigation and selections to modeling complex and sophisticated pieces, such as a realistic dog and a spiraling staircase for architectural renderings. Topics include polygon modeling, surface and curve modeling, and rendering for presentation or portfolio. Specific topics within polygon modeling include extrusions and edge looping for Box Modeling. Construction modeling is covered in detail, involving bridging edges, combining meshes manually and with automated boolean procedures. Surface and curve modeling covers topics like how to create curves from curves and how to create surfaces from curves.

3D Character Modeling – Volume I

Topology is critical to all aspects of the 3d process. Deformations of the shoulders, blend targets of the face, clean UV layouts, and adding effects such as fur, hair, or cloth are all dependent on a the topology flow. To know the topology flow is to know the character’s role, and the final output of the project. For short film, you may require more polygons, and tighter close-ups of the camera. Whereas, a mobile game may only require a distant camera, and deformation requirements may not be nearly as demanding. Regardless of whether the model is low-poly for games or high-poly for cinema, the flow of the topology defines the quality of the deformation, surface textures, and effects.

3D Rigging and Rig Building – Volume I

3D Rigging and Rig Building will guide you through the process of articulating movement for characters in Autodesk Maya. In this volume, Matthew places much emphasis on the creation of rigs for any digital asset, not just bi-pedals. He begins this process by explaining all the nuances of parenting in Maya. He then takes you through a long process of analysis, synthesis, and automation of a camera rig using MEL script. If this is your first time writing in MEL or writing code ever, no worries, Matthew takes you through an introductory hour on MEL script. Additionally, Matthew explains each…

3D Texturing – Volume II

3D Texturing will give you the essential skills you need to take your modeling to the next level. From film to games to medical visualization to any other CG 3D industry, this training will guide you from simple primitive objects to complex processes between Maya, Zbrush, and Photoshop. Matthew will show you how to create objects for both film and game, and clearly delineate the differences between processes. Matthew will take you through two very challenging processes. First is the high polygon to low polygon retopologizing process needed for game artists, utilizing xNormal and Zbrush for the maps and Maya…
